MY RESEARCH FOCUSES ON WESTERN FOREST DISTURBANCES

As a landscape ecologist, I conduct research at multiple spatial and temporal scales to examine the causes and consequences of western forest disturbances, primarily wildfire and insect outbreaks. My work addresses disturbance dynamics, successional patterns, effects of past climate variability and future climate change, as well as ecological implications of forest management policy and changing land use. I employ field studies, dendrochronology, GIS analyses, and spatial modeling. My research generally focuses on fundamental ecological questions with applications to forest management, land-use policy, and climate change.
